What Is PDRN in Skincare?

PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide. It arrived in Korean skincare from the clinical side, where it had been used in injectable treatments, and now appears in creams, serums and balms across the K-beauty aisle.

What it is

PDRN is a fragment of DNA, typically derived from salmon, which shares a notable similarity with human DNA. In topical skincare it is used as a conditioning ingredient aimed at skin that looks tired, dry or lacking in bounce.

What a topical PDRN product can reasonably be expected to do

Be clear about the distinction here, because marketing often is not. The clinical research behind PDRN concerns injected treatments administered by professionals. A cream or balm you apply at home is a cosmetic, and its effects are cosmetic: better hydration, a smoother-looking surface and a plumper appearance while you use it.

That is a genuine result. It is just not the same thing as the clinical procedure, and any product promising it is overselling.

Why it is usually paired with collagen

Most PDRN formulas include hydrolyzed or so-called pink collagen. Collagen molecules are too large to penetrate deeply, but on the surface they are very effective humectants, holding water against the skin. The combination targets the look of bounce from two directions at once.

Where it fits in your routine

A PDRN balm goes at the end, after moisturizer. In a stick format it works well as a targeted step on the areas that look tired first: around the eyes, the nasolabial folds, the forehead. It can also be applied over makeup during the day to bring back some glow.

Who it suits

  • Dry or dull skin that looks flat by the afternoon.
  • Anyone wanting a finishing step with some substance to it rather than a plain highlighter.
  • People who travel or work in air-conditioned offices, where skin dehydrates quickly.

Very oily skin may find a balm format too rich; a lightweight serum is the better choice there.

How to try it

Our PDRN pink collagen balm stick is a 10 g portable format that works over skincare or on top of makeup. It sits naturally alongside the rest of the hydration and glow range, and pairs well with an overnight mask for the evening.
